Business Buzz: Pip’s Curiosity Shoppe

As seen in October 23rd, 2020 Newtown Bee

Business name: Pip’s Curiosity Shoppe

Address: 117C Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook

Owners: Sheri Legeret and Pippy Marie Legeret (dog)

What is your business background? 2020 has been a year of reflection. Many have chosen to take advantage of this great pause and change course, to do something more meaningful, and I am no exception. I left my direct marketing career to make the Pip’s dream come true. Hopefully, I can apply all I have learned to keep this curious little shoppe on the minds and in the conversations of potential customers all over the state of Connecticut. I am a storyteller and content creator by trade and a collector and artist by hobby... kind of like the Batman of Thrift.

I have had about 30 years to collect what is currently in our showroom and to build relationships with sellers, auction houses, salvage yards, and wrecking companies. In 2020, we (my husband Dave and I) finally took the big step to “go retail.” Taking advantage of buyers/renters market, we found our showroom space on the banks of the Pootatuck River — we can’t imagine a more beautiful location.

What is your business’ focus? Pip’s Curiosity Shoppe is not your average vintage store. One part antique boutique, one part art gallery, and one part collector’s paradise; you are guaranteed to find a one-of-a-kind gift for even the most discriminating taste. Pip’s pride is in the curation of curious things. The most interesting, hard-to-find, and rarest things you never knew existed, things you remember from long ago, and things of beauty... custom made for you. We scour estate sales, auction houses, and salvage yards to replenish our showroom often. We delight in finding the needle in the haystack.

What is something important to you that readers know about your business? At Pip’s we like to be “low impact” on our environment — we like to “walk the walk.” We look to the past to find items of quality. Whenever possible, we recycle — or as we like to say, “up-cycle” — to improve and modernize our merchandise. We want to take this opportunity to serve our community. We favor fair pricing and community over a quick buck any day, and word of our philosophies will be spreading.

Do you have any upcoming promotions or seasonal specials? You are always invited to make an offer, if there is something you love that is not in your price range! Everything in life is negotiable!

Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm; closed Monday. Expanded hours coming during the holidays.

Phone: 203-491-2745 for the shoppe or 203-209-6924 to text Sheri
